When creating wrought iron work, such as gates or railings with upright bars or pickets, achieving uniform spacing can be essential for both aesthetics and functionality. However, there is no universal bar gap that suits every project. For instance, spacing each bar at 100mm may seem straightforward, but it often leads to complications. If the total length of the railing, say 1750mm, doesn’t divide evenly by 100mm, you’ll end up with uneven gaps at the ends, which can detract from the overall appearance.
The preferred method for spacing bars in wrought iron work, such as railings and gates, is to calculate the gaps on an individual basis. While this approach is undoubtedly more time-consuming compared to using a set spacing tool, it yields a significantly higher quality finished look.
