Fitting a lock to a gate.

Most gates can have a lock fitted. In some case it might not justify the cost of a lock. A simple fix is to have a hole drilled during manufacture, through the latch and latch holder. Enabling a padlock to be place in the hole. This stops the latch from lifting, effectively stopping the gate from opening. Its not the most secure, but is certainly ideal to stop the gate opening, without force being used. A cheap padlock costing a couple of pounds will do the job. Down side to this is that if the gate can be lifted it could be force over the latch keep allowing the gate to open.

When something far more secure is required we recommend fitting a lock as part of the gate design.

A fully enclosed locked designed for use in gates. When unlocked only the top pin is out. This is operated by the handle. So going in and out is just a case of using the door hand. When locked the bottom pin is moved out by the turn of the key. Although the handle still works, the bottom pin remains locked into position stopping the gate from being opened.

This type of lock is easy to fit during manufacture but requires clear space in the gate frame to fit, so some designs might be unsuitable. But we can advise design alterations to accommodate a lock.

This type of lock works well on single gates and double gates.

Prices for this specific type of lock usually add around £120 to the price of a gate.
