Building regulation require that any fall of more than 600mm be guarded. Which means if you have a raised patio that is more than 600mm above ground, A railing of 1100mm high is required
if not subject to building regs 900mm

Patio railings can be made in a wide variety of designs, this video shows a small selection of possibilities. There are some 75 plus designs here and that doesn’t even scratch the surface as to what is possible These designs were drawn as a 1500mm panel size. This is usually the ideal size, as posts are then at a close enough interval to provide good support for the railings.
On long runs that require multiple panels, its usual to take the distance. Divide it down so that you end up with panels around 1500mm long. Obviously this wont work for every size and your final panel size might be longer or shorter than 1500mm. But its ideal to keep it as close as possible. It might seem tempting to increase the panel size and have less posts in an effort to reduce costs. But its false economy as it railings are likely to flex and not do the job they were design for.
Economy panels.
Like most things in life, there is perhaps a need for an economy version.
This is a plain and simple railing using 40mm x 8mm flat steel for the horizontals and 12mm round for the upright bars. It utilises 99mm spacing between upright bars, making it building regulation compliant.

As these are an economy panel they are only available in semi gloss black finish, but can be if requested supplied primer finish only for a 15% discount per panel. Allowing you to paint yourself in a colour of your choice.
Standard panels
Standard panels use convex bar for the top rail 40mm wide, with 40mm x 8mm flat for the bottom bar and 12mm square uprights.
Upright bars are spaced at a maximum of 99mm. (see bar spacing for more details)

A few other possible designs if you want some detail in your patio railings. These are price the same as the standard panels, but with the additional cost for decorative features to be added to the price. These are drawn as 1500mm panels. so actual design may need to vary according to size. But this is something I would discuss with you based on your individual size requirements.
